The resource utilization of livestock and poultry manure is an economically effective approach to pollution prevention for modern animal husbandry, as well as a crucial driver for green agricultural development. The state supports livestock farms and individual farmers in building facilities for harmless treatment and resource utilization of manure. It encourages practices such as returning manure to fields, biogas production, and manufacturing organic fertilizers to turn waste into wealth, thereby achieving ecological and circular agricultural development.
Four Major Technical Models for the Resource Utilization of Livestock and Poultry Manure
01. Commercial Utilization: Production of Organic Fertilizers
Livestock and poultry manure is a natural organic fertilizer. Solid manure can be treated through aerobic composting (where aerobic bacteria absorb, oxidize, and decompose waste under oxygen-rich conditions to achieve harmless treatment). The composted manure can then be applied directly to local farmlands or processed into commercial organic fertilizers.
02. Energy Utilization: Biogas Engineering Construction
Biogas is a renewable energy source, and livestock manure and urine are key feedstocks for its production. Relying on specialized manure treatment enterprises, manure and wastewater from surrounding farms are collected to invest in and build large-scale biogas projects. The resulting biogas and biomethane can provide local farmers with electricity, heating, and cooking fuel, realizing the energy utilization of manure.
03. Integration of Breeding and Planting: Harmless Treatment and Utilization
The integration of breeding and planting is a circular ecological farming model. Manure produced by livestock is treated through composting or other harmless methods. Wastewater and partial solid manure undergo anaerobic fermentation and oxidation pond treatments. The resulting fertilizers, nutrient-rich water, biogas residue, and biogas slurry that meet field application standards are then applied to rice paddies, vegetable gardens, and orchards to promote healthy crop growth. This model not only reduces chemical fertilizer inputs and improves soil quality but also resolves the pollution caused by manure accumulation. It protects the ecological environment and achieves an organic, circular integration of animal husbandry and crop cultivation.
04. Centralized Collection and Comprehensive Treatment
Relying on large-scale livestock enterprises or specialized manure treatment centers, manure and wastewater from scattered farmers and small-to-medium-sized farms in densely populated breeding areas are centrally collected. Based on local conditions, appropriate treatment methods are adopted, such as processing into refined organic fertilizers, harmless treatment, solid-liquid separation, or comprehensive collection for field application. This centralized processing ensures effective resource utilization and creates a favorable breeding environment.
